Ok. I've looked over this site and either it's not listed or I don't know how to find the information. I've got a master mechanic that just built my brothers 90 eagle talon tsi AWD that's pushing 710 hp. This thing is scary fast. That's beside the point.
He's very good. Works on Supras, Nissan Zs, Lotus elise, cobra shelby, Acura RSX-S, etc... Mostly turbo, but quite a bit of NA too. This guy is good and his shop is amazing! This mechanic has looked over my car and has estimated a price to build up my 5sfe NA. approximately 250 on the crank. Definitely not 250 whp. I don't even think that is do-able with this motor. First mods I will need are breathing mods , IHE god quality stuff (e-bay parts wont do it ) problem is though all the good quality things are going to be hard to source as the car is 11 years old and some stuff has been discontinued . Next is porting and polishing the head and getting some oversized valves and shaving it to bump the compression . But none of this is much good if I cant find a more aggressive cam to make use of the extra flow . So these are my starting points. I have a guy who'll do the god quality header for me. $600 all custom Now here's the BIG QUESTION - Where do I find stage 1 cams for this motor? They MUST be god quality to handle what he's going to do. Do I have to go custom? If so who can do them? He'll do all the head work . Ballpark for headwork with new valves , springs , retainers, cut seats most likely replace the guides and port, polish and shave is about $2000 ( that does not include removal or installation ). I don't want turbo. I know turbo makes a hell of a lot more sense, but then it wouldn't be an 5sfe. Any help is appreciated! |

You are asking questions regarding largely uncharted waters. I know of no cams or other parts that are available for the 5sfe.
If you want to stay N/A, I recommend the vvti 1mzfe. It will be cheaper in the long run and will have stock reliability. It will end up at about 215hp but with a much better powerband. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |
