Just recently I have noticed a high pitched metalic screaching sound coming from the transmission somewhere. The sound is faint (loud music/exhaust probably drowned it out before I noticed it) and only occurs occasionaly but only when downshifting.
I cannot feel any difference in performance but the sound does not sound healthy! Btw I took the car to mechanic, but as with most intermittent mechanical sounds, it never occured when he was in the car! ![]() Any ideas? Sorry I havent had much chance to go on the net recently!
It turns out that it wasn't coming from the transmission but from the chargecooler pump most likely. I cant fully confirm this yet, but I haven't heard the sound since changing the charge cooler pump. The 'check engine' light kept on coming on and I knew that it was related to the cooling system somewhere, and then when I got it checked out, it was 'code 52' and 'code 54'. Apparently the code 52 is knock sensor, and 54 is to do with the cooling system and upon further inspection the pump was found to be faulty. My mechanic told me that the knock sensor problem could be related due to increased inlet manifold temps and this should go away with replacing the pump. Got the car back last night and took it for a spin and the engine light came up again! I took it up to my mechanic again and the code 54 had gone, but there is still a problem with the knock sensor which is going to be costly to replace! What I wanted to ask you guys is if it is worth buying a second-hand sensor, or buying a real expensive new one from Toyota? Labour charge is going to be high, so is it worth the risk of a old one messing up and costing me double labour charge?! Also, he said thau japenese import st205s have a different knock sensor than uk st205s due to fuel differences, is this true?
