hey ya'll,

i'm pretty sure someone already has 5.1 surround in their celica. it requires some cutting in front center dash.

now, here's the interesting part. there is a home deck player by Pioneer (DV-588-A). i know it's not made for the car, but it's pretty small. i'm not that mechnical myself, but i would like to see someone here or elsewhere modify their car to convert a home deck into mobile. why would somen be crazy enough to do this? SACD&DVD-Audio MLP. so far, Sony hasn't licensed SACD playback for the car yet. DVD-Audio MLP is available but only @$1,000+ for a headunit. DV-588 costs only $130 over internet. plus, it plays MP3s, divx, etc. the problem is that celicas are small. plus, if there are existing carputers, it might pose as a space issue. just giving this idea to someone who has the will&know how to do it.

oh, BTW, since the home deck doesn't have the buffer memory, some sort of shock absorber has to be made to make it feasible.

yo manny, long time no shee =P. how time flies.

i have to disagree with the notion of multichannel music trying to replicate stereo.

adding the surrounds enables the acoustics to fill out much better than than simply stereo. no matter how hard you try, the pair of stereo speakers aren't able to project sound that is coming from the back of you. i have a few mixtures of both stereo and 5.1 hybrid SACD recordings and my fav. are well recorded and mixed 5.1. a perfect example is pink floyd's dark side of the moon. hearing that in 5.1 means no going back to simply stereo. there's simply no going back... unfortunately, people have abandoned high-res. sound for puny sounding .mp3 because of convenience.

re: recorded. yesh, multichannel music is typically mixed (like pink floyd), although Star Trek Nemesis 5.1 track was actually recorded in multichannel with mixing to adjust levels.

@home, i have a 7.1 setup that can tackle sacd, dvda, home theater stuff (HD), unfortunately... my room acoustics sux. your room can determine how well things can sound.

furthermore, more $ doesn't mean it is automatically going to sound awesome. there's a certain threshhold of $ vs. performance where once you cross it, it's gonna become more about bling than sound quality. most people's ears are going to fail to detect that difference anyways.

that's why i have a desire to move that type of a setup to car. the car has the perfect audio environment (inside the car, i know there's a craptastic amount of noise pollution outside of the car) given the correct variables.
