Hello - first post here so be gentle with me, ok?!
I picked up a 97 GT 2 weeks ago today and have to admit i'm loving it so far, its a fair bit faster than the 1990 1.1L Fiesta that it replaced!! Looking to make it as nice as some of the ones i have been looking at round here but think it might take a while on my salary ![]() anyway, i have bought two sets of speakers to replace the stock ones - a pair of JBL GTO6507C 6.5" components for the front and a pair of JBL GTO6527 6.5" co-ax for the rear. I'm aware that both the rears and the woofers in the front should just pop straight in so no worries there but i'm looking for advice on taking off the plastic in front of the wing mirrors so i can mount the tweeters where they are for the 8 speaker premium package - i'd imagine the sound engineers at toyota probably have the best idea on where to put them!! does this plastic just pop off or is it more involved? While i'm here - i have wired in a 12" sub and 800Watt 4 channel amp in the boot and currently the wire from the battery sneaks in through the front door hinge (yuck!) and the wires are trailing through the car (even worse!), which is the best way to route these cables and how would i go about powering the rear speakers from the amp in the boot? sorry for the long post - i have looked around to find answers and either my search skills are crap or this hasnt been covered before. Thanks in advance people Mark -------------------- ![]() |

thanks for the reply...
I have the 4 speaker set up at the moment - i want to put the tweeters in the same place as the 8 speaker. I'll attack with a screwdriver later after i get home from work, luckily it is actually sunny today so i wont get soaked ![]() the amp i have has seperate volume and filters for both the 'front' and 'rear' outputs so i'm not worried about overpowering the front speakers with the rear although eventually i would like to get a seperate amp for the 4 speakers and sub (maybe another sub too?! ![]() The amp i'm using is a US Blaster and sounds *ok* to my pretty uninitiated ears (in terms of in-car hifi anyway). Does anyone have experience with this brand? It was pretty cheap anyway so swapping it out wouldnt be too much of a problem - it helps that i was sent the 800W 4 channel instead of the 300W 2 channel too ![]() Also the sub is just a no-name 12" driver although i'd imagine a better quality amp on a sub-par sub is preferable to an all singing all dancing sub on a mediocre amp? Do people go for single brand setups too - would a JBL sub be the best thing to use with their speakers? I'm thinking its probably not necessary with all the filters and what-not on amps these days... I have another question regarding caps - what sort of total system power is the limit for running without a cap or is a cap always beneficial?? apologies again for the looooooong post! Cheers -------------------- ![]() |
