Got my Alpine 9805 today and am gonna replace the stock 1 unit high GT radio. Just wondering:
1) is there an internal amp in that version? 2) what extras do i need to put in the amp? my dad insists that i need an "ampersand" aftermarket mounting kit, and then some internal harness because he doesnt want to clip wires. Does anyone know where i could find either of those if they're neccessary? Thanks, Amory |

First, determine if you have a factory amp. You can do so by checking out my "how-to" on "installing a new stereo".
Second, you must decide if you want to use the factory amp(if you have it) or use the built-in amp on the new stereo. If you want to use another external amp that you purchased then the procedure would be the same as using the stereo's built-in amp. If you decide to use the factory amp then you will need a special harness that has an adaptor for this setup. I'm not sure what it is or where you can get it. I guess the link in one of the previous posts is it but I'm not positive. If you want to bypass the factory amp and use the stereo's built-in amp or another external amp then you will need the Metra wiring harness for all Toyotas 1987 and up. It will have one plug going to 2 plugs - with one almost twice the size of the other. If you decide to go this way then getting the harness is the easy part - finding the factory wiring underneath the amp is the hard part. Good luck! |
