Currently rebuilding my 5SFE and I am taking my block to the local machine shop. $30 per cylinder. Would there be any significant increase if I went .02 (.5mm) over? Also what else would I need besides new pistons and rings?

that's completely personal preference. what do you need the car for? daily driver? weekend car? I would have to say the 3SGTE would be a more reliable boost option (however a bit more pricey). people suggest to have approx $4-5k for the swap. I've heard of people turboing the stock (no new internals) 5SFE for roughly $2k. however if you plan on beefing the internals you will probably reach the price of the 3S swap which would be easier and alot more upgradable down the line. how much hp do you want? if 180-200 is sufficient, then the 5S would be a good choice. decide what you want, do your research, map the pros and cons, and make an informed decision. the 3S has been known to produce well over 300hp+...
good luck. read the stickies and forums and it will help you with your decision. |
