Without calling around, and just looking on craigslist in the auto forum, I saw some mentions of $300 for reupholstering the front seats only. That sounds kinda cheap to me, so no promises on that. If it were me though, I'd totally call around and see what it would run to have the front seats reupholstered. There are tons of places that specialize in auto upholstery.
The benefit of course to the custom seat covers is that you can remove them to clean them. Also, it might cost more to have the seats upholstered with the same materials available for the seat covers. If I had $500 do drop on my seats, I'd shop around and see how I can get the most for my buck. Then again, those bucks don't come so easy these days...
