My girlfriend is 19, and working full-time to pay for her car. To get this car, she had to use her dad's credit and he cosigned. If she moves out, they will take her car, yet she has been the one making payments on her car, even working so much that she is getting very few college hours in.
How can my girlfriend move out and KEEP her car? I am not too clear but I think she has been giving her dad her paychecks and he has made the payments using her paychecks or something like that. So to the bank, it looks like he is the one paying. If she moves out, they keep the car, yet her mom just demanded that she moves out or START PAYING RENT. Yeah, thats what I thought. Her parents are telling her that if she moves out, they will keep her car, and if she stays there, she has to start paying rent, ALONG with paying for her car, for THEIR groceries, and doing all the work around the house.. HELP PLEASE! -------------------- |

QUOTE(cHinaman727 @ Nov 10, 2007 - 6:18 PM) My girlfriend is 19, and working full-time to pay for her car. It doesn't seem unreasonable for her to pay rent to her parents considering she is 19 and can clearly afford it. It is also reasonable to expect her to do a share of work around the house. I think a fair rent would be approximately half of what she would likely pay if living on her own or with you. It doesn't sound like the parents have a legal right to take her car as long as she is able to continue to make the repayments, but parents can be ***holes like that. On that front, she would be better off paying off as much of the car loan as she can, then taking out a personal loan for the remainder and using that to pay off her parents. Once the car is entirely hers, the parents no longer have that leverage and she can make a decision about whether to pay rent to her parents or move out. -------------------- Davey
