i bought what i thought was a 7afe for 200$ from junkyard but the IM doesnt have the EGR Valve nor the Vacuum Switching wich would make it a 1.5L 5afe right? how could i tell for sure what it is besides that i also looked for the metal plate on the block wich would say but its missing. also if it is 5afe how much worse is that than the 7afe what all would i be losing?

I checked it when I first put it in and it was getting a yellowish spark, however I think the Distributor was going out. The secondary resistance wasn't right on the ohms, nether was the GE- & NE- terminals on the distributor harness, and also my starter burned up in the process. Fuel was getting to the plugs, aswell as spark at first, and when i put my finger in the spark plug hole it was poppin' out air. everything was plugged up, however due to the 4AFE head the EGR was blocked off (wich wouldn't be no biggie). Once i get a new Distr. and Starter , I can do some more trouble shooting. The only difference between a 4AFE and a 7AFE is the stroke (7AFE - 85.5,4AFE-77.0)resulting in 7AFE more torque lower RPM,4AFE less torque higher RPM,CC(7AFE-1762,4AFE-1587),PS(7AFE-115,4AFE-105),RPM(7AFE-5400,4AFE-5600). To install it all I had to do was to use my Power Steering Pump bracket, and screw out the sensor on the back of the block and screw mine in. Now if i can just get it running!!!
Wouldn't a 7afe Distributor work for this 4AFE, and if it won't how could I customize the Distributor harness to match mine. wess- -------------------- [SIZE=7][COLOR=blue][SIZE=1]-WES-
