I want to spray paint my valve cover, is it safe enough to un-bolt and remove it? or will i find it difficult to put back on, anythng i need to watch out for?

Should be fine. You'll probably need a new rubber gasket since you'll probably tear the old one up in the process. They're not expensive. Just make sure to use high temp paint.
