So I've been thinking lately to get a winter beater (for next year) and since gas is getting more and more costly (especially in the winter) I was thinking of thing to get a better MPG.
I know GM and Chrysler have introduced cylinder deactivation in some of their V8 model..why not do it in a 4 cylinder ? Plans : •kill one cylinder •do a warm air intake (behind the radiator) •over inflate the tires to around 35 psi •Use a 5w20 oil •NEW• Install some kind of restriction in the exhaust there there would be more recirculated gas in the chambers Lets look at the specs! 1995 Civic 1.5 litre 102 HP • 32 MPG city, 38 MPG highway = 35 MPG combined Now lets take one 1 cylinder... 102 HP / 4 x 3 = 76.5 HP, 44 MPG est. combined Now since its not going to be technicaly a 3 cylinder be cause of the 4th cylinder friction and valvetrain, I would estimate a 70 HP and 42 MPG combined at best...and up to 47 MPG on highway! The way I was thinking of doing was simply disconnect one fuel injectors and remove the spark plug (to not have compression) and install a filter element in the spark plug hole. Also I'd need to permanently close the intake and exhaust valves of that cylinder. So far I'm just wondering which cylinder I should deactivate...I know it will inevitabely be a rough ride because of the combustion being not every 90 degrees anymore..but hey, harleys do it no? Any thought ? This post has been edited by Rayme: Jan 30, 2008 - 4:58 PM -------------------- ![]() -Rémy 02 SiR, 08 250R |
