Is it just something wrong wit my car or is all st's have bad traction... even with 110hp my car spins and jumps from a take off pretty badly. My clutch is stock and is still very good, i got stock tires/rims but even so it just doesnt seem to have good traction so once its turboed i dun even wana think about all the spinning it will have from take off.

ok this insanity has to stop.
A clutch is made to put the power/torque to the wheels. If a clutch is bad/worn/crappy then it won't do that. It would slip and the wheels would NOT be able to spin easily or spin at all. An OEM clutch is made to be easy and lightly slip for easy starting from a stop with our low hp/torque cars. A stage 2/3/4 or whatever stage is made NOT TO slip or slip signifigently less. A Stage 2 disk for example is rated for higher torque which can hold to the pressure plate better and therefore SPIN the wheels when you press the gas pedal. Spinning your wheels is because your clutch grips like a mo fo. why do people have to get a better clutch when they turbo ? because of the higher torque they now have and an OEM clutch can't handle the torque - meaning it slips and the disk burns out and the tires don't spin at all. If you can spin the wheels easily you have either : a. bad tires (not necessarily old) b. a heavy right foot c. a lot of torque d. all of the above my advise, don't press the gas pedal so hard. -------------------- |

Well said...so if you plan to turbo, you pretty much need to upgrade the clutch. Dustin knows what he is talking about. |

Well said...so if you plan to turbo, you pretty much need to upgrade the clutch. Dustin knows what he is talking about. Look. Im not pressing the gas to hard. My Tires arent old, or worn. these cars may have a lot of torque. but not as much as a 5.0 Mustang or some of the other cars ive driven. im not saying you dont know what your talking about, infact i agree with you on what you have said. all im sayin is that the clutch in my car, which because i have not pulled the box and checked, im ASSUMING is a OEM toyota clutch, sucks. Those are not the only reason you would be spining your tires either. If your clutch is to soft your going to have a real hard time finding where to release and if you ride the clutch while trying to find the release point, then your going to spin the tires when you let go. From what ive seen on these cars the clutches are really soft making it hard to judge where to release. This could be the reason the kid is spining his tires. this would also have nothing to do with tires or a heavy foot. Again, as i stated earlier, this might just be my cars clutch but i thought he might have had the same problem as me. Im glad Dustin knows what he is talking about, but i know my foot and i know my tires and this is not the problem. the clutch is the problem because its to soft and if your not use to a soft clutch or have never driven a Standard, if you have a soft clutch your going to run into a spinning tire problem. Thus making the OEM clutch suck. |
