ok, i've got a push button start in my car. it just kinda hangs there over by the left vent. so i think to myself, "i'm gonna move it over by my cd player, that should be easy enough". so i unhook it, run the wires through, tighten the wires back down and i go to start it but nothing happens. any ideas???

it was already set up when i got the car but the button you can get at advance autoparts for $4, its a switch thats meant for a horn or something like that. umm...if it helps, it bypasses my neutral safety switch. when it gets warmer out and i'm not working, i'll try to see how its wired and let ya'll know.

it sounds like a hot-button to me... i bet it doesn't require the key at all to start does it? If its wired off of presure switches and stuff, sounds like the previous owner just slaped that in there...

Usualy push starts have more parts depending on features, that address security issues, ect. your ignition switch is just a switch, only the key completes the circut as you turn it. It requires power from a constatnt source (battery) and sends it to your acc feed,(witch starts your fuel pump, and readys the engine for startup) then it transfers to your ignition startup (starter, solonioid ect.) and that's what starts your car.

Like (and i dont like to use this term; nor do i endorse it. I am not affiliated with 6gc.net) "hot-wiring" a car, requires taking the constant, the acc. and the startup and putting them together. This hot-button is a switch between the constant; and the acc/ignition lines.

with real setups, they can bypass the key provided that your in park, but require it to take the car out of park. or for manuel transmitions, out of gear, or via the parking break.

*EDIT* MODS, please dont delete my account for using the H/W word... i was referencing not endorsing!!
