paint, $$$ Options

if I go to a local shop,what do you estimate the price would be to get the car painted if I buy the paint myself from an auto paint co. and have them do the masking and whatever else. (my car is 3 shades brown with BAD swirls)

I spoke with a shop here in houston who has been featured in a few magazines for paint jobs they've done. They quoted me 1,000-1,500 for full body repaint with them getting the paint and doing all the body work. Speedfeen is right though. I used to dabble in painting a bit and there are many kinds of paint. Such as pre-mix ready to go and stuff you mix yourself. The stuff you mix yourself will never dry until you mix in the other component. But if you buy the pre-mix stuff and dont take it to them for a few days.... congratulaions you know own a rock of paint. Lols. The savings you would encounter getting your own paint would be minimal if any at all. The paint is not where the paint companies make their money. Its body work where they make their money. PLUS... the paint companies can get the same paint you will buy much cheaper due to the volume of paints they purchase on a day to day basis from their supplier. Find a good reputable company and leave the work with them and you will be satisfied. Trying to get involved will only give you and the painter a headache. The only thing you should worry about is making sure you convey to them the color you want. And leave the rest to them.
