I've decided to do the manual swap and teach the wife to drive a real car. I have an S53 transmission available but I want to be able to tell how fast I'm going so I need an S54 which has the electronic speed sensor.

You should be able to swap the speed sensor out for an electric one.
Might want to search around celicatech.com. I think a few 5th gen guys have had to do it before. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
