Was looking under the car today, and noticed my front pass wheel was splattered with what appeared to be mud. Upon further inspection it turned out to be grease of some sort (petroleum based smell).

How do I change the boot/joint out? Is it a hard job? How would I know if the joint need to be changed aswell?
Is this what I should use? http://www.celicatech.com/imagearchive/bgb...afts%202.2L.pdf EDIT: So after doing a bit of searching it seems it would be easier to replace the entire axle shaft, rather than just the boot. By doing this, it should also ensure there isn't (or shouldn't be) any problems with the joint itself...Would an axle shaft include both halves (inner and outer). My question now is which axle part would I need? The chassis is a 98 convertible, while the tranny is a E153. I'm not 100% sure what sort of axles are currently installed, but it should be E153 inner axles and st185 outers, with a custom spacer from Jamasco. Would someone be able to tell me what exactly the inner and outer axles are, and where the inner becomes/joins with the outer. Is the inner axle the piece that goes from the transmission to just under the alt belt, has the spacer attached to it, and is attached to the centre driveshaft by 6 bolts. And is the outer the piece that is "angled" and goes from the inner to the steering knuckle? Here is a link to pics of my spacer and axles as well as info from the PO regarding the actual axles in the car. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...lution&st=0 This post has been edited by 6gsillyca: Mar 24, 2008 - 1:52 AM |
