So since my boy friend owns a 6th gen and the first time I laid eyes on the car, I wanted one. I finally got the celica, but it had more issues than I thought. I boguht the car with both air bags deployed. Since my boy friend did the 7th gen steering wheel swap he had a spare steering wheel left over and we used the air bag assembly from that, but the passenger side air bag panel is still open and the air bag light is on. What can we do to get rid of that light? I really don't have money right now, since I used it all on buying my very own 6th gen. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this? Any way to disengage the air bag light? Or do I have to go out and buy a passenger side air bag? Please help.

Autozone can't diagnose the code, they only do OBDII and yours is OBDI.
Here's a link to the manual for (our) cars, it includes the code definitions. Grab a snack if you're on dial up. Full Manual Electrical Wiring Diagrams Lastly, I believe the laws vary from state to state, but to the best of my knowledge it is against the law to sell a car w/deployed airbags w/out disclosing this. (It's the same thing as being illegal to roll back the odometer.) Many states have lemon laws too, but I'm unsure how this affects private parties. You might want to check into this, and then give the seller a call and let them know that they need to replace the air bag sensors or you'll file a small claim against them. (even if you won't.) Don't just stick tape over it or pull the bulb out. Your safety is not worth this lame little quick fix. People on here can help you... replace the air bag(s) and sensor... don't take cheesy short cuts that you might regret later. It sounds like you didn't do your homework before buying this car... you're young, it's all a learning process. Suck it up, do it right and move past it. It's not the end of the world, and I'm sure a mistake you won't repeat in the future. -------------------- ![]() |
