hi all. i just got an external hard drive for my lappy that i want to use as a back up drive. when i got the lappy the hard drive already had about 1/4th of it partitioned off as a backup. how do i un partition this and back up all the info to the external?
just incase anyone is wondering, i use windows XP and i have an HP Pavilion dv2000 and the external i got is a Western Digital 120 GB portable HD. any help is appreciated thanks -------------------- |

I would create a bootable floppy (or CD) (www.bootdisk.com) and make sure that you put the FDISK and Format.com files on there. After you have created the disk, boot from it and run FDISK. From there you can delete and create partitions but be careful. Whenever you delete and create a partition you MUST format the drive. Also, if you do all of this from DOS (the way i explained) the file system will most likely be FAT32. There is a way to boot DOS to recognize NTFS that is explained at the website above but I have not tried it yet.
