Hey everyone,
I've been looking about the forums, because I wanted to know how to wax a car properly (still don't know how, so if you want to answer please do) and a brand name keeps poping up with good, if not great, appraise. Meguiar's. so i looked into it and a couple of products cought, my attention. Now I'm admitedly still ignorant about cars and such. (I can hear the WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?! now) so I really don't know what will work and what wont. so please bear with me. alright first off I'd really like to know if Meguiar's Ultra Cut Compound will help with my Dead clear coat problem. so far the waxing I have done has greatly help with the look of the car, and taken off some of the dried dead clear coat. I don't have the money just to slap on a new coat of paint so my options are limited. so yeah will this stuff help with that problem for the time being, and maybe even to the point where I can start taking even more care of my car? Thanks for your input, Soul |

Ultra Cut Compound is a significantly aggressive product. It will take off the upper layers of paint, which if the clearcoat is damaged may be what you want.
However, it is aggressive enough that it can strip the clearcoat entirely, though it is unlikely to do so without the aid of an orbital or a rotary buffer. It is a truism that you want to use the least aggressive product you can. If the problem is that your clearcoat is oxidised, Ultra Cut is probably too aggressive for your purposes (it is the second-most aggressive product Meguiar's offers) -- it is designed to remove sanding marks.
