Gonna have a go at cleaning my engine bay on the weekend if the weather is promising, but my question is, would it be ok to get a power washer on it before i use start scrubbing and polishing?? its a budget power washer so not gonna rip things off...

One suggestion -- avoid the Mother's Back to Black, it has a tendency to turn plastic grey if not regularly re-applied. A rubber/vinyl preservative, such as Meguiar's 40 is a better choice.
