I did do a search and didn't see anything in the topic. anyway, Im curious, How to make a car street legal from Japan? I know that Emissions is the biggest thing hindering it from being street legal.

so what I'd like to know, and I'm sure there are others as well, is:

1. Is it legal to drive a RHD car on public roads in the US?
2. what Emission work needs to be done, and whats the possible cost on it.
3. what else would need to be done to make it legal?

Thanks for your input guys,

Soul

From what I know, to import a car from Japan, it has to be 15 yrs of age or older, AND its legal to have RHD except you have to have the registration papers and everything if a cop ever pulls you over so you can prove you legally imported it over and purchased it.
Also, its very dangerous to drive a RHD because compared to Japan's roads, they're the exact opposite from our roads, so parking is definitely goin to be a lot more difficult, and you'll have to get out of the car everytime you go to a drive-thru or u have someone in the passenger seat, AND you'll have to readjust your headlights for LHD use or else you'll blind ppl on incoming lanes.
Also, you're probably going to have to go get emissions testing and everything and make sure it reaches your ministry of transportation's expectations and regulations. And if anything, you'll probably have to "de-tune" some cars to pass smog tests.
