I'm trying to find a clean spot to mount the GPS, because I didn't want to use the windshield mount. What are your suggestions to how I can make it integrate with the car better? I was thinking a custom panel piece, but I've tried it before, and let's say it didn't turn out well.

That's similar to my setup. I have the TomTom and it came with a small disc with adhesive that I have affixed to my dash. Although mine is slightly to the right and back, just off the instrument cowl hump.
