Well my motor finally bit the dust after 279,000 miles. Any advice/words of caution or things to avoid when pulling the engine? I'm just swapping in another 5sfe. I have a Haynes manual, and so far have removed:
strut brace battery cruise control evap canister and drained the oil It's been simple, thanks to the step-by-step guide in the Haynes book, but thought I would ask you guys anyways. Thanks |

I took mine out the bottom, guess it was easyer but you have to get the car way up in the air and thats not a safe idea without proper equipment.
when taking the cluch master out, dont disconect the line, just take the unit out and unbult any mounts to it or the line and hold out of the way. I would take the entire exhaust off from the engine to the rear motor mout/exhaust mount gives you more wiggle room with it not in the frunt. thing to note my repair manual (not sure what brand but the standard smucks one] was wrong about the fireing order it listed [4,3,2,1 - distributor] when its really [1,2,3,4 - dist] take your time, be carefull with the connectors I smashed 2 in the corse of my swap, and there not always easy to find in yards. map out the vacume lines because some manuals dont really give you a good enough diagram of how it works, I took a label maker and labeld both ends and the tube of each line maybe a little overkill but saved some time and had no confusion. also there are plenty of things you dont have to take out to remove the motor, all that needs to go is whats directly in the way and the motor itself, did you removed the whole cruse controll? i left mine just took off the cable to it and pulled out of the way.
