my alt died on me recently, i replaced the alt and belt just fine but recently it started to get really noisey so i tried adjusting the belt tensioner on the alt.. when i make it tighter it gets worse but when i make it so loose to the point where it wont grip it goes away (along with the battery lol) but i was curious (and i tried searching and found nothing useful and fell asleep searching thru 5 billion things totally unrelated but definately pretty interesting lol) if yall think it might just be the pulley going out (the same pulley both the powerstearing and alt share... almost looks like a water pump pulley?) or any suggestions otherwise would be really great.. the car runs fine its just really hard not to hear her coming lol

I checked the belt this morning there was no cracks, no glazing, nothing that i would see. so should i replace the new belt and tighten it up again? last time i replaced it i left about a half an inch of deflection on the belt (.50 up and .50 down so an inch all together at most) should it be tighter than that? its been ages since i have had to replace any belts
