Hi Everyone,

I'm brand new here; I didn't even know this place existed. I'm the original owner of a '97 Celica GT convertible. It has been a great car for me, however it is now starting to have various problems. My most recent problem is the rear windshield has separated in areas from the convertible top. I ended up with a significant amount of water in the boot before I realized I had a problem. My budget is nearly nil so this repair has got to be a do-it-yourself job, and I'm certainly not at all handy around cars. But even to me, it looks like it shouldn't be that hard to fix. I'm assuming I need some kind of adhesive and to lower the top enough to ease the tension. If that's correct, then what kind of adhesive and how the dickens to I get the window and top to stay joined together, since I can't think of a way to clamp it together. I hope all this doesn't sound too dumb, but I sure could use some guidance here. Thanks.

Joyce

First of all, are there any rips in the inner or outter lining of the top? If so, you will have a much harder time w/ it and just might need to replace it. If not, here's the way it was explained to me was when my window did the same thing, was to get some appoxy glue and a cauk (sp) gun from the hardware store. Put the top down about half way to ease the tension (just as you had thought) and glue the inner and outter cloth to the window...I don't think you can use clamps, seeing as how the top is in the way tongue.gif, but you can get someone else to help you keep the cloth and window pushed together (one of you inside the car, and one outside) pressing in the same spot against the top for about 12 minutes (yes 12 minutes, better have a radio on or something to entertain you're selfs while you wait). Then do that for each spot that's comming apart.

hope that's helpfull

oh, and Welcome! smile.gif

Thanks! That's fairly close to what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure what kind of adhesive and I sure didn't know about the 12 minutes, and I wouldn't have thought about having one person inside and one outside (I know, I'm showing my brilliance here!). There aren't any rips or tears, so hopefully this will work for me, and then I'll be on to the next problem. I have dearly loved my car and even after 12 years of owning it, it is still hard to think of parting with it.
