A 3S-GE is a goot engine to modify to get to GTE.

Actually, I would think that it'd be a lot, lot easier to just buy a 3S-GTE. The 3S-GE that is in the sixth gens has a compression ratio of 10.3:1 without VVT-i, and 11.0:1 with VVT-i. The 3S-GTE(Third generation anyways, not sure about first gen wink.gif) has a compression ratio of 8.5:1, and has stronger internal engine parts. To turbo an engine, you should have a fairly low compression ratio, or you could experience detonation or other engine damage. So to turbocharge the 3S-GE, you'd need to lower the compression via internal engine parts, which is probably going to be more expensive than buying a 3S-GTE in the first place.
