Ok, ive got a rattle somewhere and its kinda worrying me and here is why.
I have this odd rattling sound, loud enough to make it over the engine noise, when my clutch is not engaged. When i engage the clutch it goes away. When im costing and out of gear i can hear the rattling and when im at a dead stop out of gear it rattles. When im rolling with it in gear no rattling, when im rolling with clutch engaged no rattling, when im at a dead stop with clutch in gear no rattling. Basically its only doing it when the car is out of gear and the clutch is not pushed down. Now. I just had the tranny reworked as some might know and i called the guys who did it (these guys came very well recommended by Star Toyota, a Tech friend of mine, and believe me when i say that they replaced everything that was a problem or was going to be a problem any time soon), i even got a new clutch. Nothing is pulling in the tranny, it shifts smooth, no grind, no noise, no shacking.... nothing. Now things that you need to know. My cars CVs are Sh!t! they are very out and need to be replaced. They got worse after the guys fixed the tranny but they were bad anyways and i figured them pulling them out and jerking them around to get the tranny out, finished the job and now they are just toast. I have new ones and will be replacing them Tuesday. Could this be causing the rattling? When i say they are bad, i mean, When i turn they pop and when i get past 3000 RPMs they make this really nasty grinding noise. I dont Believe any of this stuff has to do with the tranny because all gears shift fine, pedal is tight, and no leaks. But this rattle has got me stumped. I was going to see if i can get someone to press the clutch down and see if i can track the noise but i wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks everyone. Ok guys Update:
So the tranny place that i sent my car to said tat they felt like it was the Bearings too and they would go in a replace them for me for no charge. I got it back to day and i can still hear this noise. they said they replaced all the bearings and that they couldnt hear it anymore. But i stil can. I also had them replace the Axles for me and now i also have a grinding noise coming from one of the front tires. Sounds like smooth Metal grinding against metal. like if the Rotter was rubbing on something. I think this problem is the rottor rubbing against the Dust plate behind the rottor, not the brakes because it does it wether the brakes are pushed in or not. so im not taking it back to these assholes, Anyways. So lets say that the Bearing was replaced and the tranny checked out and everything was fine. Also the Axles are replaced and are not clicking and are cause NO vibration or shaking of the car at all. That being said. what could make a rattleing sound when the clutch is not depressed at ideal or at coast, but does not make a rattleing sound when the clutch is depressed or in gear driving down the road? Question: When you depress the clutch does it stabalize the engine at all? like Lets say that a motor mount was bad and the engine was rocking more then it should due to this mount being out. If i depress the clutch, does that stablize the engine in the bay? This post has been edited by Havok1997GT: Aug 7, 2008 - 5:54 PM |
