I just recently purchased my 1994 ST Sport Coupe and I absolutely love it. I had been searching for a 6th gen Celica for months and as soon as I found a good one, I jumped on it. The only thing that I wish my Celica had is a sunroof(and a spoiler, and power windows, and power locks, and was a manual...hmm one thing at a time). Now I am faced with the difficult dilema of whether or not to have an aftermarket sunroof installed.
Have any of you had an aftermarket sun or moonroof installed on your 6th gen. Celica? What are the cons to these aftermarket sunroofs? What are the chances of it leaking? How will it effect the structural integrity? If I were to have this done, I plan on taking it to a local place that specializes in installing aftermarket sunroofs. Thanks for any help and advice. |

I had an aftermarket sr on my Pathfinder a few years back. It was an '87 & I think the s/r was installed not long after - so it leaked. Turned out I was able to google the manufacturer and order a new gasket that went around the glass, and once i replaced it it worked great. Mine was just a pop-up moon roof though, it didn't actually slide open.
I think an aftermarket one is probably fine. You should inquire as to what kind of warranty they offer, I'd think any place decent would have a very good warranty against leakage. As for structural integrity, I really don't think it's a concern. The structure of the roof w/a factory sunroof isn't different than those without. Only the headliner is different where that's concerned. -------------------- ![]() |
