Well i just swapped my steering. I have the dilemma of the cruise control. I have read its a possibility of just joining some wires and give it a try, however bad cruise control can mean acceleration or inability to turn it off. so i decided to see about it.
My new matrix steering did not come with one, buying one is not a problem. However the 7th gen is a 2 wire module and the 6th gen has 3 wires. as far as comands options on 6gc, i took it apart, very simple switch, consists of 3 resistors wired in a way to provide multiple resistance values for each option. Thats how it does it. By resistance, and the computer reads this. ![]() The question is how to effectively use the 7th gen making sure you get all the functions. I set my multimeter at 2k setting and here are readings... 1. Cruise On / Off (this is actually a zero resistance switch. ) this is the white and white/black together The following are the red and white/black together 2. Cancel ( the resistance value on this is 0.419 ) 3. Set/Coast ( the resistance value on this is 0.198 ) 4. Res/Acc ( the resistance value on this is 0.068 ) here is the basic set up ![]() However the 7th gen has 2 wires, and i need to get ahold of one to take it apart and study it and modifiy it.. Yes the Cruise on the wheel is better. Until i get my hands on a 7th gen, it is unk what functions can be done or replicated safely. As both computer modules can be different. Ill keep posting... Ok so the wheel I bought didn't have a cruise control module on it - can I retrofit the module I currently have to the new 3 post wheel so I can keep my cruise?
