After trying to explain the similarities with the celica, coupe, and curren, ST, GT, GT4, 5sfe, 7afe, 3sgte, etc,... pretty much everything that is on this site, to a friend of mine he brought up a really good question. In the Curren models, the Currens that have the 3sfe (FS and XS) and the 4sfe(TS) would a 3sgte swap be similar as the ST (in US) swap? For example, having to get a new tranny (GT, or MR2T) plus having to new motor mounts?
As for the ZS model with the 3sge motor I know it would be kind of dumb to swap when it would be cheaper i think to just add a turbo. Anyway, if i can get some feed back on my first question i would appreciate it. Thanks, David This post has been edited by ToYCeLi8: Jan 30, 2005 - 8:34 AM |

From what I understand the "S" series blocks, 5SFE, 4SFE, 3SFE, share the same motor mount locations. Only when you get into the "A" series blocks, 7AFE, 4AGE, 4AGZE do you have to worry about motor mount locations and transmissions. It will almost always be easier to swap an engine if the series you are putting in matches the series you are taking out.

I have a 90 3sgte engine which is replacing my 7afe 97 celica and the engine mounts are identical. The only problem i have is that the rear axle and struts look like there going to cause a problem |

[/quote] Im using the tranny already on it converting my st to awd looking forward to the hard ship ha ha. Do you mean the brackets that conect the mounts to the body if so from what i can see the engine will just slide in. But ill let you know for sure as i will hopefully switching them over in a couple of weeks just sorting my self out with a little run around while working on my st. |
