i was reading the 4age and 4agze posts and it says the 4age is used more for racing applications and the 4agze more for street driving...my question is why? do race teams turbo the 4age? or do they just beef up the internals so much that it produces insane amounts of power while staying NA. im just curious more than anything...not planning on swapping (i have a gt-but mostly funds)

you can make low end torque by turbo'ing a 4agze which is what a lot of people are doing due to the restriction that the SC12 supercharger begins to become on a 4agze. either turbo'ing & removing the s/c or going to a SC14 off a previa which requires a lot of custom pipe work to get it to fit.

you don't lose top end with a 4agze - we've taken it up to 6500rpm & the motor still had legs to keep going, it's just different than say a high comp 4age.
there's nothing wrong with a 4age for daily driving - it just depends how much your car weighs - think of the cars it originally came in - a MKI MR2, AE86 here & overseas the AE101 & AE111 Corollas.
putting a n/a 4age in a Celica wouldn't feel that great due to the weight of the car - this is where the torque of the s/c moves the heavier Celica & makes it feel peppier & pull harder etc.

the n/a 4age was used for years in the TRD Atlantic racing series - long after the motor was out of production cars.
google for it & you can read all the specs etc.

and btw you can't compare a 4age to a 5sfe - 2 totally different motor families all together - compare a 5sfe to its turbo'd cousin the 3sgte.
