Im saving for an engine build, im about half the way there with funds. also im guessing my time line is within the next year*
my question is whats my best bang for the buck? the more research i do on fwd turbo cars i hear about a "suspension demon" that creeps out around 200whp and you loose traction in turns when you apex a turn and attempt to accelerate outa a turn... ive sat shotgun in a boosted gen2 swap "toyotacrazy" and was almost gonna trade celicas with him+ cash. also rode in a supra. both cars slammed me into the backseat from rolling takeoffs, but in the supra when the clutch gets dropped wile in boost and the rear end gripped the road it sounded like we hit something "chassis twist" so the garage i apprentice at is mainly a supra shop, specialty is the almighty "7mgte"/ anyway since day 1 the owner shane has told me to ditch the celica and get a supra if i want to make big power, get that power to the ground, and stay safe. we do rebuilds all day long and port and polish heads and manifolds too. ive driven a turboed honda hatch that we use as the company beater its prolly around 180hp, its fun in boost/ but i wouldnt say its unruly on the roads. sorry for the ramble, but just giving yall background that ive driven boosted fwd "if honda even counts" yuck! theres also a chance of buying my friends N/A 280z he started overhaulin to drift with. (that said i hate drifting!) or find a good quality mr2 body with a blown 3sgte. and finally learn to ride a bike and work my way up to hell on 2 wheels. (i dont ride yet, and im not crazy enough for stunts/ cause i think driving around uninformed motorist is dangerous enough) -------------------- |

Word of advice, after dealing with MK3's for MANY years if you buy one I must recommend you to do a 1J/2JZ swap, the 7M is just a waste of time.
EDIT: You could find a nice 1JZ MK3 for $6k. This post has been edited by GotToyota: Oct 9, 2008 - 6:18 PM |

People that don't know the motor only say that because that's all people talk about. My friend just recently dyno'd his 1J at 385whp and 371tq (single turbo, of course), you consider that torqueless? I'm just giving you my opinion on what the best solution would be for what you're looking for. A FWD car will NOT give you what you want, and you will be limited with the places you can actually use that power. I've been down this road before, I owned a MK3 and now own a Celica, I miss my MK3 badly. Look around Craigslist and you'll find a 1J MK3 for $6k (most likely stock twins or BPU but the car is still very fun this way). The 7M is a troublesome motor that isn't worth the work. The same buddy I mentioned above that made 385whp had a 7M before the 1J, and it was almost exactly as you described: fully build, pistons, metal head gasket, valve work, blah blah blah, and he still blew the headgasket and from there decided to switch to the 1J. If you actually researched the 7M you would see why so many people are going over to the 1J/2J side. Obviously most people on here will tell you to go the 3S/Celica route because this is a Celica forum, but actually listen to someone that's had both a MK3 and a Celica. -Matt This post has been edited by GotToyota: Oct 10, 2008 - 12:25 PM |
