94 ST hb manual

Well, I need a new engine. This is a daily driver, not a hot-rod. So I want to replace it with a stock engine. Here lies my problem. Apparently there's two different kinds of 7a-fe ( cali. w/EGR + FED ). How do I know whick engine is mine. Now assuming that I know which one is mine ( I will once you guys let me know how ) which engines bolt/plug right in. I'm talking no modification what so ever. Some people say that "any" a series will fit. I find that hard to believe that the ecu in this car would power any a series engine without and mods.
So, ?'s are :
1. WHat engine do i have cali car (w/EGR) or fed ( what ever that is )
2. What is EGR
3. What eninges will go right in with NO modifications what so ever.

Thanks in advance guys
Regards,
Jonathan

It was also brought to my attention that the JDM 5A-FE is a direct bolt in for the 4A-FE and the 7A-FE. Does this mean that the 5A-FE will go in any 7A or 4A no matter what year . . . ?
