Help engine light! Options

well yesterday as i was driving on the highway, i felt the gas pedal start to vibrate a little bit and then 10 mins later the engline light came on. Then, i went home n didnt drive for like 4 hours. Turned the car on n drove n the gas didnt vibrate anymore but the light n still on. So, the next morning i went n did the paper clip thing, but then the engine light didn't even flash..so what can i do?

ok well i just got back from autozone and it seems like my car is throwing a P0420 code which is my catalyst efficiency low bank-1. It says the probable causes can be the catalytic converter is defective. Engine misfire or running condition. Large vacuum leak or engine oil leakage into exhaust valve guide seals piston rings. So what do you guys suggest i do..just bring it to a shop or can i tackle this job by myself and if i can, where do i start im a noob but wants to start working on cars!
