if you look into the history of the mayans where this myth origionates you learn that they were fncken good astronomers (sp) thousands of years ago they could predict when the solstice would occur and other things like that which are completly accurate even today. Put it this way, they knew that the earth wasnt the centre of the earth and the earth wasnt flat long before westerners.
