It's raining here today, so that means headlights on. I parked my car a little while ago and went inside for a couple of hours. When I went to leave, I started my car up, started to leave the parking lot, and turned my headlights on. When I turned them on, the entire electrical system died for just a moment and just about killed the motor. That's the first time this has ever happened, and I'm curious what happened. Any ideas?

Rick, my motor was running and I only had the radio and turn signal on before I hit the lights. It's like turning on the lights shut down the entire electrical system for a brief moment, and when the electrical system went out, it just about killed the motor, same as disconnecting the battery or something.
Culpable, I just had my alternator rebuilt last February. Turns out a 1500 watt amp and 15" Kicker L5 square sub with no capacitor are horrible on an alternator. I got rid of that system before the alternator died, but nonetheless, I had to have it rebuilt anyway. It's possible that the shop I took it to did a poor job, but they are supposed to be pretty reputable. They had to rewire the alternator though, so there's room for mistakes (I think.) So should I take it off soon and get it checked anyway? I tried duplicating this a while ago, and nothing happened. Motor running, turn signal, brakes, and turning the headlights on. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates.
