 Speed Sensor, Speedo erratic |

My speedo is erratic sometimes reading correctly then not at all. I need to diagnose the dial or the speed sensor. The ABS light comes on and that I have heard rules out the speed sensor, but is there also one fitted to the gearbox and wher do I find it.
