So with my next paycheck this is the system im lookin at. i know its for beginners, and its not great but i think it will sound ok.

2 alpine type e's
1000 watt sony amp.

this and the box, plus all wiring will cost me around 400 even. My friend works at circuit city and will buy it for me. That includes warranty. I already have a real nice panasonic deck.

Personally, I'd go with a completely different setup. Those Alpine subs can only handle 200 watts RMS per sub, and they're not very high quality subs. Their XMax is also pretty low, at 11.7mm. Also, Sony's Xplod line of car audio products simply is not very high quality.

And one more thing. If the amp you're talking about from Sony is the XM-2165GTX, then it puts out 400x1 watts RMS @ 4 ohms, which would be fine, except the impedance is wrong for the setup you described, because those subwoofers are SVC 4 ohm, so if you wired them to get a 8-ohm load, your subs wouldn't be getting much power, and if you wired them to get a 2-ohm load, you'd probably destroy that amp very quickly. If your friend who works there suggested that, I would be VERY skeptical of anything he tells you about car audio.

You could get an Adire Shiva 12" sub for $125 new or an Elemental Designs e12K 12" sub for $135 new and a new JBL 600.1 for $175 shipped, and then build a box yourself, and you would have a much, much better sounding system for less money. smile.gif
