whats the easiest / safest way to remove power steering?

The appropriate way is to also dis-assemble the steering rack and pull out the seals, essentially making it a manual-rack with a fast gear.
Just removing the pump and such will make the steering harder than if it was a regular manual-steering system. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
