Just jacked the car up for a service to find that I have torn the right hand side outter CV boot and the left hand side has cracks and looks like it may tear soon.
Is it worth replacing the cv on the rhs or just the boot? Is it a big job? I shouldn't need to replace the axle will I? Ill get photos up soon. I searched but could find anything that helped me. Im sure someone out there will find what im after but i tried. changing the boot isnt the easiest thing to do. first you have to pull the axle out and clamp it down to a vice. Remove the rings so you can expose the grease on the side that is ripped. You will see that the joint isn't one piece behind the grease. You take a hammer and start hacking at it so it removes the shaft from the other part. Once that is out, you will be able to slip the boot on and re-attach everything. installing it back is the hard part, there is a small locking ring on the shaft that is almost impossible to get it (kind of like slipping a piston into the block, you need to compress the rings, the shaft also has a ring) I would do a write up but its too late. I hated doing the boots, try replacing the whole shaft if the costs arent too great.
