I've decided that I need an alarm on my car since I'm dropping my full coverage insurance (just wasn't worth it). I live in Dallas, so car theft is an issue, but its not horrible. I need something thats secure and convenient and not chirping at me every time a bird ****s on my car. I think I also want a 2-way key fob thiny and remote start.

I thought about installing it myself, but I thought of what you mentioned. Are any of the national chains (best buy, circuit city, etc) worth a crap at this? I'm sure I can do it right, but I don't know that I have the time.

Definitely don't take your car to Best Buy or Circuit City or anywhere like that to get an alarm installed. They'll just want to get your car done, and most likely won't solder all connections, use relays and diodes where it should be done, hide the brain very well, hide wires well, etc.

I highly suggest installing it yourself or finding a really good local shop that has lots of experience with installing alarms, but keep in mind that a good alarm installation will cost you.
