Can you get cams for it?
Who actually has done this swap in their original 5sfe??? I am thinking about possibly swapping my 5sfe out maybe... This post has been edited by 6G96GT: Apr 14, 2009 - 8:49 PM |

QUOTE (6G96GT) I think I would like to install cams 264 and 272 in it as well as possibly milling the head (is the 3sge a non-interference head?) and then maybe advance timing (would this mean I would need to upgrade the ignition to compensate for a more powerful spark?), do up a nice exhaust system including a header and intake (probably SRI). If I were to do the cams, would I need some kind of fuel management system and safc? This question is solely based on "need to". I think the 3sge has 180HP? I think all this work would put me at a nice 205HP range? My funds available for this project is $5G and I would probably sell my current 5sfe (engine, not the car of course) to help fund the project on top of the $5G. firstly good choice on cams, you'd want medium size or else you'd never use them, as your changing gears. the smaller exhaust cam will give you better mid-range power. yes the 3gen 3S-GE is non-interference. QUOTE (Depending on the design of the engine, the piston and valve paths may "interfere" with one another and incorrect timing in their movements may result in the piston and valves colliding.) if you are going to put cams in, your best bet is putting adjustable cam gears, then getting those adjusted properly. I dont think you need to do too much check the dissy etc other than that just get some HT leads and iriduim spark plugs (maybe colder plugs) I dont se much point getting new extractors, the standand ones are quite good, but I would recommend some headwrap like I have done, I noticed a slight cooler engine bay temp, and could touch them after a drive. I really recommend a CAB (cold airbox) they are usually easy to make aswell. doing the above work you'd get about 80% of the power, but putting in a computer of some sort will unlock the extra 20% which the standard computer cant produce. yea they have 178BHP, so with the intake and exhaust done and even slightly advn cams you can get 195BHP, so I'd expect to see 210~220BHP but while the engines out might you might want to think about upping the compression, head gasket.... anyway this is good reading 3S-GE Tuning -------------------- |
