I'm running Castrol Magnatec 10w30 at the moment, Toyota specifies I have my oil changes done at one of their dealers in order to keep my new turbo warranty (It's a Toyota CT26 reconditioned). My problem is that I can't find bottled Magnatec 10w30 at any shop there only exists Magnatec 10w40 and I can't afford a Toyota oil change at the moment but I'd like to top up the oil I have since I've got another 1,500kms left till the next service interval but it's down to 1/3 oil level on dipstick.
I'm pretty sure its not good to top it up with another brand of oil, so should it be fine to mix 10w30 and 10w40? -------------------- Mike W

mixing w30 and w40 will be fine...the only difference between the 2 is the thickness
The first number represents the viscosity or (thickness) of the oil at start up temperture. the second number represents the weight of the oil....so for a 10w30..the oil starts out as 10 weight and turns into a 30 weight...same with the 40...starts at a 10 weight and turns into a 40 weight the hotter the engine gets. The "W" stands for winter. All it is, is the thickness of the oil. you will be fine -------------------- ![]() I"M NOT A TOYOTA FAN, IM A FANATIC 1984 accord hatch 5 speed (T-Belt)-Junkyard 1991 VDUB jetta wolfsburg Ed. 5 speed (clutch)-junkyard 1988 Dodge Aries K (sold) 1969 Chevy El camino - Traded for celica 1991 Dodge Daytona-Traded for Celica 1988 Chevy Camaro-Work in Progress 1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 - For Sale 1995 Toyota Celica-Work in Progress |
