Picked up a scanner the other day to start fixing the last big problem on the car.

I already took off and cleaned out my EGR valve as best I could, but on the scanner, I noticed it flashes EGR and CAT.

avg speed it trips is 35-41mph and I have the other readouts if needed to help with the troubleshooting.

anyone have any other ideas? O2 sensor? Intake manifold?

ok wait. When you were driving around with the tester in, the little icons for EGR and CAT where flashing? That usually means that the ECU hasn't completed a test cycle on it since you plugged it in. Don't worry about the flashing icons, worry about CEL codes that are thrown.

You have the same code my EGR system was throwing a month ago. I ended up replacing my EGR valve, EGR modulator and the hose that connects the two. You could take your EGR to a mechanic and get them to vacuum test it for you. After replacing my EGR, the CEL came back a week later so I just decided to get a new modulator as well. It's been a month now and I'm CEL free.

The modulator has a small foam filter in the top of it you can try to replace, but it didn't do anything for me. 1sttoyotaparts.com has great prices on the two parts, but expect to spend $47.95 for a modulator or $148.06 for the valve.
