How good is your gas mileage, Got my car about 6 weeks ago and have been surprised Options

Hey everyone,

I have a 1996 GT-S Convertible. It is a 5-speed manual. So far, my gas mileage has been coming in at about 22-23 miles per gallon. I drive a fairly blended combination of open freeway and around town. Does this seem right? I expected I would doing better than this.

Still love the car, but surprised...

reset the trip odometer immeditly after fill up, drive till about a half a gallon or gas or so is left, do a rough estimate

so far when i was all highway i was 45mpg, around town though its somewhere in the 30's

Just reset the trip when you fill up your car and then when you fill it up again you'll have how many gallons you've used and the distance traveled. From there its just simple division. I usually get between 320 and 350 miles before the fuel light comes on which is around 28 mpg when I fill up. I will say that while I do drive spiritedly and am usually slowing down when entering a highway (from around 90), I do use cruise control at every opportunity whether its on the highway going 75 or in town going 30. I've found that cruise control can really help with your gas mileage.
On my trip down to AC I got a little over 30 to the gallon and had my cruise control set for between 75 and 80 the whole way down.

It depends on your driving really. I have gotten as bad as 21 mpg but that was on back country roads and I was redlining every gear on a trip to Hazleton PA. 50 in the 25's, 90+ in the 55's that kinda thing so I expected awful gas mileage.
Then again... it was a lot of fun haha.
