is it difficult to do? I've never done it, but I refuse to pay someone else to do it for me. My clutch burnt out on me, and I need to replace it. Can I just drop the tranny and take off the old one and put new one on, etc? Or do I have to yank the engine?
-------------------- I still own my celica, but i'm parting it out and junking it.. Or selling as a whole. Have a honda prelude now :(

I just did this a couple months ago on my car. I would suggest replacing the axle seals while you are at it. They are like $10 a piece.
You should get your flywheel resurfaced. It may cost more than a regular flywheel since it is a dual surface flywheel. One surface for the pressure plate to mount to, and one for the clutch disc to contact. A full clutch kit at advance auto is like $100 for the disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and alignment tool. A torque wrench can be bought for pretty cheap at a place like harbor freight. You will also need about 2 bottles of gear fluid since you are going to be leaking some, and you might as well replace it. The reason I did my clutch was because I had to replace my transmission. So When i got the transmission out of the car at the junkyard, I went ahead and grabbed the flywheel so that I could get it resurfaced ahead of time. Here is what everything cost me... Clutch kit- ~$100 Axle seals- $20 for both Flywheel resurfaced- $80 (There was only one place around that could do it, and they did an excellent job. Gear lube- $10 for both bottles |
