made it out to New England Dragway today, and got a good handfull of runs in, and managed 2 good runs.
the first good run i bogged a tiny bit off the line, cut a crappy 2.2 60ft time, and ran 13.8 @ 106. my next run, i reved a little more at the line, and still cut a crappy 2.2 60ft time. i got thru the shifts pretty cleanly, and managed to run 13.6 @ 108MPH! that crappy 60ft time, and the 108MPH trap tells me there is still ALOT left in the setup as it is, we just need to dial the car in a little more, and REALLY work on the driving. feeling great, i was psyched for my next run, hit it alittle harder at the line, but totally missed the shift to 2nd. when i finally did get it into 2nd, at the top of the gear i felt/heard somthing a little odd, that i had felt from time to time since the last dyno when i got on it really hard occasionally. by the time i got to the end of the track, i realized the battery light was on, so i pulled off, and poped the hood. to my amazement, i popped the alternator belt! so, we decided to chance it and try and make it as close to home as we could. (its a 2hr ride each way) we got about 1/2 way, ended up getting stuck in boston traffic, and i stalled the car trying to pedal it in traffic. we had AAA tow us the rest of the way, and had my cousin pick us up a new alternator belt, and drop it off at the garage. WOOT, what a day. i am on the right, #885 ![]() ![]() -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Manny, what tires were you using?? Have you thought about some stock fronts with some drag radials????

Have you thought about some stock fronts with some drag radials???? look close, thats exactly what is on there. stock 15" 5 spokers, with 225/50/15 BFGoodrich DR's. ![]() i cant wait to see what guys like jim and dustin will run with the 3rd gen swaps with the longer e153 gearing. shifting 4 times in the 1/4 sucks. thanks guys! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Ah my bad, I can't see anything front work. Ok, so DR's are on there, gotcha. Shifting 4 times is just a fact of life. VERY few cars get to run out third at the top end. Some thigs to consider to help the launch -- a stutter box if once can be adapted to the 3S (or a MSD with a two step) for building boost on the line and actually launching with positive pressure. Hard on the drivetrain but great on the short times. Something else to try would be instead of hold a consistent RPM to launch try timing it to where at the 2nd or midpoint between the 1st and 2nd yellow to do a quick rev to launch. A fast sudden rev will build some pressure before it can bleed off as opposed to holding a consistent launch RPM. How much tire pressure were you running and what kind of RPM were you launching at?? HOW were you launching (fast slip, drop, ect)?? Just some pointers and thoughts for getting that short time down. -------------------- |

Doh! I'm thinking 4 gears, not four shifts. My bad man. How does the emanage work the two step?? Ignition cut I presume??? That's actually pretty safe as you're still getting fuel keeping the cylinder cool, and that fuel ignition in the exhaust is what spools the turbo up. If it's a fuel cut though, that's not the best way to get it. That's a lot harder on the motor. -------------------- |
