hello all. I have a 1996 camry. Recently the tranny has been taking a **** on me, poppin out of gear and other random ****. The motor has 212k on it so I figure it is time for a swap. I also drive a nissan and one of the guys from nico said this to be a very helpful sight. He said twin turbo mr2 motor, that it fits my car with a celica tranny. Is this true? And are there any other swaps that could be fitted to my car. Also car must smog( cali sucks balls for smogging)(wich prolly rules out twin turbo but still) Thanks guys, for any help you can give.

If you have a 4 cyl Camry then you probably have a 5SFE. You can swap any S series motor(2nd part of the engine code, ie 5SFE, 3SFE, 3SGE, 3SGTE...) without too much hassle(wiring will be the main concern).
The highest horse motor would be the 3SGTE(2.0 Turbo, MR2 turbo or Celica GT-4/Alltrac motor). Then comes the 3SGE(UK/Japan Celica SS-II/SS-III motor). If you have the 6 cyl Camry, they will fit, but you would have to mess with engine mounts/axles/transmission. I couldn't help with specifics, but since the last post was just sarcastic I thought I'd offer some info to help get you in the right direction. |
