There's this guy selling a tranny for my 5SFE right where I live for about $200 with only 50,000 miles on it. (Is that a good deal?) The tranny came off a JDM engine, I beleive it was a celica also. I was just wondering if the JDM tranny would be compatible with the clutch kit and flywheels over here? The reason I am trying to get hold of a tranny, is because my 3rd gear is grinding like CRAZY. I tried the synchromesh fluid like everyone else on hear, but unfortunately, my results didn't come out as good as everyone elses did. My synchro in third gear shot, and now I drive with out a third gear (for the majority of the time). Please let me know if I would be able to use this tranny on my engine as I would be very happy if it does work.

Thanks to the 6gc community in advanced for the help, Ryan

EDIT: Here are some pics of the tranny. I checked it out, and it seems to be the correct one. I don't know if you guys can tell if it's the right one just by looking at it, but here you go.

I know it's very dirty, but I'm gonna use some HEAVY degreaser and clean it up. Any certain way I should attempt to try and clean it, or just some Purple Power and a pressure washer will do????

two possibilities......

1. if its an original JDM box its four wheel drive... and it will fit but pItA as you got transfer case for rear tailshaft.....
2. e153 MR2/camry..... identicle box theoretically to the alltrac one just without the transfer case....

short answer..... the e153 box will bolt to the 5sfe..... as i have bolted the 5sfe gearbox to the e153 engine...IE..3vzfe..3sgte in mr2 use the exact same box....

so if the engine it came off was in an MR2, grab it...it will fit..... if it was from a celica and is 4WD... then its gonna be a pain in the ass to put in......IMO... but it will go in....

changing gearbox means changing, driveshafts, mounts, speedo sensor, linkage cables and shifter, etc etc....

Okay, I talked to the guy and he said it came off of a Celica, a UK Celica. BUT, it wasn't a 3SGTE it was a 3SGE, and he clarified that it is a FWD tranny. Is this correct, or is this guy just messing with me??? Need assistance ASAP, I'm going to see him today!
