I had my oil pan gasket replaced today. The mechanic said when he pulled the pan down, he noticed the screen had some sludge on it but he cleaned it off and it's good to go. My question is this...the pan gasket should be fine right? I mean it's a straight forward simple job for a mech to do right?
Also, If the oil is over the full mark 1/2 a quart, how bad is that for my car, should I even be worried at all about that? When they re-installed the pan, they obviously did a fresh oil change and added 4.5 quarts (.3 over the actual limit) and I don't think they considered the oil filter and the oil it retained (they left the filter on and didn't change it since it was fairly new). It's not that I doubt him, I guess it's more along the lines of an oil pan gasket job. Is it a job that is a simple job or is it one that 'usually' comes with problems...sort of like how there's a lot of talk about servicing transmissions...before they're serviced, they're fine and then once they are serviced, they go to hell. Ever hear that?
